There’s no need to rush
We’ve gotten so used to rushing, we don’t even question it anymore
It shows up in the smallest moments. Rushing to get ready in the morning, even when we’re not late. Rushing through chores just to get them over with. Walking quickly through the shops like there’s a time limit no one actually gave us. It’s constant. Subtle, but constant
And the strange part is, most of the time… there’s no real reason for it
Nothing is urgent. Nothing is chasing us. But our bodies don’t seem to know that
We move through our days like everything is an emergency. Quick movements, shallow breathing, always thinking about the next thing before we’ve even finished the one in front of us. Over time, that becomes our normal. Our nervous system stays slightly on edge, responding to pressure that isn’t really there
And then we wonder why we feel anxious
Sometimes it’s not about what we’re doing. It’s about how we’re doing it
You can get ready in the morning while feeling calm, present, and unhurried. Or you can do the exact same routine while feeling tense, distracted, and rushed. The task doesn’t change, but your experience of it completely does
That’s where slowing down comes in
Not in a dramatic, overhaul your life kind of way. Just in small, intentional shifts
Take your time while you’re getting ready. Put on a playlist you love. Sip your coffee or tea instead of forgetting about it. Let it feel like a moment you get to have, not something you need to rush through
When you’re in the shower, stay there. Not physically, but mentally. Feel the water, let your mind slow down for a second instead of jumping straight into everything you need to do next
When you’re driving to work, look around. Notice the sky, the light, the way the day actually feels. These little details are always there, but rushing makes you miss them
Romanticising your life isn’t about being unrealistic. It’s about being present
It’s choosing to soften the way you move through your day. To find small pockets of calm in moments that would usually feel rushed. To remind yourself that not everything needs to be done quickly
Because the truth is, if you spend your whole life rushing to get where you’re going, you risk never really being there at all
Days blur together. Weeks pass quickly. And before you know it, time feels like it disappeared. Not because it did, but because you were always just trying to get to the next thing
Your nervous system feels that too
It’s not built to live in a constant state of urgency. When everything is approached with that rushed energy, your body stays activated. Always slightly tense. Always preparing for something. Even when there’s nothing to prepare for
But when you slow down, even just a little, you start sending a different message
You’re safe. There is time. This is not an emergency
And your body responds
Your breath deepens, your shoulders relax, your mind feels quieter. Nothing around you has changed, but everything feels different
You don’t need to slow down your entire life overnight
Just start noticing where you’re rushing when you don’t need to be
Take one moment today and move through it a little slower. Breathe a little deeper. Stay in it a little longer
Because life isn’t just the big moments you’re working towards. It’s all the small, ordinary ones in between
And if you keep rushing past them, you don’t get them back
